Precautions of use

Precautions when using a Ceteor booster

1. Wear eye protection and gloves.

2. Check the voltage selected on the booster and the voltage of the vehicle to start.

3. After a start attempt of 10 seconds, wait 3 minutes before making a further attempt.

4. Put the booster in charge immediately after use.

5. Do not place the clamps in contact with a metallic surface.

6. Never recharge your booster SOS 12/24V or 12V on board of a vehicle with a 24V charging socket (cigarette lighter).

Why recharge the booster?

1. SULFATION of the lead

In our pure lead AGM batteries, during discharge (startup or prolonged storage of the booster) sulfuric acid which is diluted in the electrolyte is attracted by the lead plates. When charging, this process is reversed and the acid "returns" again in the water.

On a vehicle, after starting, the battery is immediately recharged by the alternator and the acid naturally returns in the electrolyte, provided that the vehicle's alternator is working properly. Therefore, if one does not charge the booster immediately after use, the acid remains on the plates, eating away the lead, causing sulfation and decomposition of the lead.

The deeper the discharge and the more time passes by, the more important sulfation and corrosion of the lead plates.

At some point, sulfation and power loss are irreversible. That is why we recommend putting the booster on charge as often as possible. The booster can remain permanently in charge on its original automatic charger supplied with the unit.

A booster well charged, assures much longer lifetime of the booster’s battery.

2. 100% efficiency :

A well charged booster is 100% chances of successful starts. Indeed, fully loaded, the booster can deliver the highest power level.

3. Order and method = PRODUCTIVITY

Replace the booster in its place is a productivity gain and a pleasure to always find the tool where it should be.

That's the whole point of choosing our range of boosters PROPULSTATION that have a docking station. For more information on this subject, download our "Why recharge" document".

How long does it take to recharge the booster?

The power of the original charger supplied with your booster is meant to recharge it to 100% in one night, after a day of use.

What if I do not use my booster during a long period?

Ideally, you should leave the booster on charge with its original automatic charger. You can let it connected to the mains for a long time and the battery will be maintained at full capacity. If this is not possible, recharge it every 3 months during 48 hours using the automatic electronic charger AC / DC 230/12V originally supplied.

What voltage should I select to start a vehicle?

When you start a vehicle, make sure that the booster has the same voltage than the vehicle. Thus, you must start a vehicle 12V with a 12V or a 12/24V booster, of which the selector is plugged into the 12V. Similarly, you start a vehicle 24V with a 24V or a 12/24V booster of which the selector is plugged into the 24V.

It is very dangerous to choose a higher voltage to reduce startup time, as it was the case in the past. Indeed, a battery (whether that of the vehicle or that of the booster) that is subjected to excessive voltage can emit explosive gases. Also, if you engage your booster in 24V and you connect it to a 12V vehicle, some of the latter's components can be damaged.

However, it is absolutely safe to choose a booster with higher cranking amps even for small vehicles.

How to start with a booster?

First, turn off the ignition (heating, lighting ...) before using the booster.

1. If you have a 12/24V booster, make sure the voltage selector is unplugged before connecting the clamps.

2. Connection
First connect the red clamp (+) to the positive terminal of the battery, then the blue clamp (-) to the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Select the correct voltage if you have a 12/24V booster.

4. Starting
After a start attempt of 8-10 seconds, wait 3 minutes before making any further attempt.

5. Disconnection
When the engine has started, disconnect the voltage selector if you use a 12/24V booster. Afterwards, disconnect the blue clamp (-) then the red clamp (+).

6. Storing
Return the cables and clamps to their support posts.

7. Recharging
Recharge the booster immediately after use!

Can my booster damage electronics in my car?

In recent years, car manufacturers have introduced more and more systems with electronic components in vehicles and engines of all kind.

These components are expensive and fragile and it is advised to be extremely careful when starting engines.

We remind you that Ceteor boosters can in no way damage the electronic components of vehicles.

The use of our boosters following the instructions of the manual is completely safe and amounts to replacing the vehicle battery momentarily, which meets the manufacturer's recommendations. Using a booster is fully compatible with them as the vehicle only draws the energy that it needs from the booster to start the engine. Unlike previous start techniques still too often used today and which are extremely dangerous for vehicle electronics, health and even for human life.

Why choose a more powerful booster?

The starter draws from the booster battery only the power needed to start the vehicle. Therefore:

•    EFFICIENCY: a more powerful booster will deliver faster and more easily the required power. Thus, you will succeed 100% of your starting immediately, which is a time saver.

•    RELIABILITY: a more powerful booster has more powerful batteries and is more resistant to the use, this increases the reliability of the booster.

•    LONGEVITY: the more powerful the booster, the less you focus on the batteries to get the necessary power. The battery's life is thus extended.

•    AUTONOMY: a more powerful booster has a longer autonomy. This means it can start multiple vehicles in a row without being affected, even if you do not have the opportunity to recharge it directly between two starts.

•    "WHO IS THE MOST IS THE LEAST": the most powerful booster can also be used - without any risk - for lighter vehicles. You can then safely start engines of powerful vehicles but also engines of motorcycles.

Can a more powerful booster damage a small vehicle?

No. The engine to start only draws the power it needs to start the vehicle. It can be compared to the electric circuit of a house. Regardless of the amperage selected for it (16A, 20A or 40A) it will be possible to connect as well a light bulb that consumes 2W as a washing machine that consumes 2500W, without any risk.

Similarly, if you use a booster of 6400 cranking amps, you can easily start a motorcycle that consumes 200 amps to start as a tank which consumes 4000.

The only thing you have to pay attention to is to respect the voltage of the vehicle and use the appropriate booster. Thus, a 12V vehicle can be started with a booster 12V (or a 12/24V booster selected in 12V).

My booster does not recharge, what can be done?

  • Check that the 230 volts AC to which you connected the charger is supplying enough current to the charger.
  • Check that the wires of the cigarette lighter plug are not "ripped out"
  • Ask your dealer to check:
    • The charging wiring of the booster
    • The state of your battery, if it is damaged, it may no longer charge
    • The charger

My booster has no more power, what can be done?

First, measure the voltage booster using a multimeter at the clamps:

If you get 0 volt:

•    The internal fuse is blown

If you get more than 0 volts:

Your booster might be discharged, put it in charge first, then check the voltage.
If there is still no power, then the battery has lost its power as a result of:

Insufficient charging:

Insufficient charging of the battery causes its sulfation. The lead plates are corroded by the acid and the battery has lost power irreversibly. See above.

Start attempts exceeding the indications for use

Start attempts which last too long ENTAIL an overpressure in the battery as well as exhaust gases contained therein. They can no longer recombine and the battery loses its power.

A too high charging voltage due to:

  • A charge on a non-automatic garage charger or on an automatic charger set to "fast charge" or "boost"
  • The connection of a 12V booster on a 24V vehicle for a short time
  • Recharge of a 12V booster on board a 24V vehicle
  • Charging a 12V booster on a 12V vehicle but of which the alternator regulator is defective and the alternator delivers a too high voltage

A too high charging voltage causes the exhaust of the gases contained within the battery and draining the battery irrecoverably.

In all cases, your fuse or the battery must be replaced. Contact your dealer and bring him the complete package of your booster (with its charger or its docking station.)

The battery of my booster is swollen. What can be done?

  • The battery is swollen on the width
    • Swelling in the width of the battery is caused by a too high charging voltage
  • The battery is swollen in the length
    • Swelling in the length of the battery discharge is due to a too deep (or a low recharge, followed by more important discharge).

In any case, your battery should be replaced, contact your distributor.

The battery of my booster indicates 0V. What can be done?

If your voltmeter indicates 0 volts or does not deviate, check the voltage at the clamps using a multimeter.

  • 0 volt =internal fuse is blown, replace it.
  • If your multimeter shows a voltage, the voltmeter and/or the push button are defective or broken, please contact your dealer.

Can I use my booster as a power source for a fridge, a lamp or a laptop?

It is possible to use the booster to power an electrical load. However, it is important to know that the batteries of our boosters are designed to provide quickly and for a short time, a very high amperage to the motor vehicle. It is the design of batteries that influences the power they can deliver.

This distinguishes them from deep cycle or service batteries dedicated for a long, slow discharge of a few amperes continuously for several minutes or several hours. Those are preferably used to supply electrical consumers.

So if you use your booster on a regular base and for long periods as an electrical supply, the batteries will get discharged deeply. Below 12.4 V, the sulfation process begins and the lead plates may get damaged. We advise you rather to use the booster as a power source for troubleshooting only.

Once connected to the vehicle to start, do I need to start it as soon as possible?

Yes, otherwise a part of the booster’s voltage will be transferred to the empty battery of the vehicle. Your booster will be unloaded for any further attempt.

When you connect the booster to the vehicle, the batteries of the vehicle and the booster are put in parallel. By the principle of communicating vessels, the respective voltages of the batteries will tend to balance, to the detriment of the most charged battery, the booster. So if you connect your booster to a vehicle of which the battery is discharged and you leave it, the battery of the vehicle will discharge the battery booster.
